Welcome to the Last Resort B&B Inn, a Michigan Bed and Breakfast located right on the shore of Lake Michigan. Built in 1883 by Civil War Captain Barney Dyckman as South Haven's very first resort, this historic Inn ran as a resort until 1959, when it was closed up and virtually abandoned for twenty years. The Inn was purchased and renovated from 1979 until its reopening in 1983. It is now open May 1st through October in the lovely town of South Haven , MI.

SOUTH HAVEN -- It's been said that the world is a scene of changes. The Last Resort, A Bed and Breakfast Inn, has itself been the "scene of changes" since its construction in 1883. According to the South Haven Tribune, dated June 19, 1948, it was built by Captain Barney Dyckman in 1883 and originally known as the St. Cloud.

Louis and Nettie Schrayer bought the St. Cloud in 1923, and renamed it the Plaza. Mary recalled a visit from an old timer who raved about the great times they had. He said when Nettie and Louis Schrayer owned the building they had fish dinner on Friday nights and spaghetti on Saturdays. After dinner they would roll up the table cloths, bring out the chips and gamble.

Hammer has the original stick the house croupier used to rake in the chips. She also still uses the original tables and dishes from the 20's. "I treasure those," she said. According to Hammer, in the early years of the building history, the staff lived up on the top floor, where she said friends and lovers signed their names on the chimney.
